Fossil Creek

I have this new friend who loves hiking and other outdoor adventures as much as me. We have been on so many hikes this past year that I have completely lost count, and the hiking shoes I bought just last year are pretty much worn out. I'm thinking I've put at least 350 miles on them... for real! If I posted about all of my adventures with her, this whole blog would pretty much be a hiking blog, but there are a few hikes that are pretty special and just need to be mentioned. One of them was Fossil Creek.

My friend got the permit, and we invited some other friends along, but it only ended up being me, her, and my sister-in-law, Kristen. I had been there before with my family, but the last time I was there, it was super crowded because it was a weekend and they hadn't implemented the permit system yet. Being the middle of the week this time, we almost had the whole place to ourselves! This was the first waterfall we came to...

This beautiful flower was just growing right there alongside our path, and it reminded me of Hawaii.

A little farther down, we came across some smaller falls. Still beautiful!

After an easy mile, we were at the crown jewel of the creek.

The water was cold, but it was a perfectly beautiful day, and we just had to get in. (Plus, we needed some GoPro footage!)

Me in my happy place. I have lots of them!

If it weren't for my sister, Jill, we wouldn't have had any pictures of the egg dyeing the Saturday before Easter. There I am, just chatting away on my phone and totally neglecting my photographer duties!

After the eggs were dyed, the kids made ginormous bubbles!

The next morning, the hunt was on!

That silly Easter bunny, always hiding eggs behind the couch pillows. Too easy!

As usual, they had to count to see who had the most eggs. It was a dead heat! I sure wish they would have found the one in the piano bench that went rotten a few days later. Come on kids, the Easter bunny hides one there every single year!

Happy with their baskets.

I made my traditional Easter candy pancakes. Okay, this year I'm going to admit they are totally gross!

His face says it best.

I had started a diet at the beginning of the month, so I was happy when Easter was over, thus ending the candy holidays and ushering in the festival of meat!

I love that my kids want me to come on their field trips with them, and I know this won't last forever, so I put up with the bus rides.

The faces this boy pulled in all the pictures were cracking me up!

I am wondering if seeing these lobsters freaked him out about seafood as much as seeing the shrimp at Sea World freaked me out when I was a kid. Yeah, it took me until I was an adult to toughen up and try one. (The body popped in my mouth when I bit down on it, so I'm still not a huge fan.)

This is supposed to be a nautilus, but it didn't show up in the pic.

Finally, a normal face.

Honors Orchestra

For the past two years, Paige has auditioned for the Chandler school district honors orchestra and made the cut! This year, as part of the junior high honors orchestra, they got to play a bigger variety of songs. I loved the one called "Earigami" where each musician was given a small piece of colored paper, and throughout the piece, they would make folds in the paper and use the paper to rub and tap the strings. At the end of the piece, they crumpled up the paper and threw it at the conductor.

So proud of her for practicing and developing her talent!
